In the fall of 1996 we "re-invented" our Sunday church
school. We have a committed group of teachers and an enthusiastic
school of students. This is a good time to get your children
in on the ground floor of this exciting venture. And, of course,
the adults are having fun too!
I began as pastor in October, 1996. Having gone through
a lengthy interim ministry period, the church is now making fresh
plans for its worship, study programs, fellowship and community
involvement. We believe that our church is on the threshold of
a new period of growth, and we are looking for folks who want
to be part of this process.
We are affiliated with the
American Baptist Churches, USA--the
denomination which has its national offices in Valley Forge.
This means that a variety of resources are locally available to
us, and we are well grounded in an historic fellowship of churches.
Our music program is also strong. Recently, the choir joined
with another local church choir to produce a wonderful cantata--which
was then presented in both churches. If you like to sing, you'd
be pleased to be part of this ministry.
For those of you who wonder about my educational background: I
received a bachelor of arts degree in history/political science
from Culver-Stockton College
in Canton, Missouri; a master of divinity degree from
Andover Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, Massachusetts;
and a doctor of ministry degree from Drew
University in Madison, New Jersey.
My family of origin was actively involved in the Central Baptist
Church in Quincy, Illinois--a church that licensed me to preach
when I was sixteen years old. I've since served in a variety
of church ministries, including rural, African American, interdenominational,
inner city, center city, and as national staff for our denomination.
I'm pleased to be a member of the Pottstown Human Relations Commission,
and you will find that I have considerable passion for ecumenical,
interfaith, and community issues and dialogue. My desire is to
be pastor of a church which has an open heart, an open mind, and
a fervent spirit.
I'd love to talk, visit, give you a tour, or do whatever else
I can to show you how FBC and you might have an uncommon future
together. Send me an email
through this webpage, or better yet, just come see us on Sunday morning....
